Stereotaxic Equipment

Stereotaxic surgical technique is based on the fact that the various parts of the brain have a definite and predictable location with respect to the surrounding parts of the skull.
A stereotaxic instrument is a device which permits the precise location of an electode or cannula accurately in a small brain structure (or spinal cord).
The major consideration when selecting the stereotaxic instrument is that it has to be rigid and and the scales clearly marked.
A correct use of the instrument and the size of the experimental animal are other factors to consider. The animals should be of the same size as the animal used in the preparing atlas. By changing the earbars and headholders the instruments can be used for many different species.

A complete manual for stereotaxic surgery can be supplied from AgnTho´s. More info can also be found here: Kopf
